Welcome to my blog…

Hi there and welcome! I wanted to start my own blog for some time now but I’ve always managed to find a proper excuse not to do so. Now, I decided to stop procrastinating and do something concrete about it. So here I am, writing my first post on wordpress :) Whoooohoooo.

Just to get you into the big picture, my idea is to keep this blog open to anyone, not only to the techies. But anyway, being a techie myself, it would be a pity not to share my technical knowledge with you out there. So this blog will include both technical and leisure posts and will be updated with anything interesting I can put my hands on.

To get a rough idea about who I am - I’m a 25 year old Software Engineer presently living in Malta. I said presently because I have been working and studying in the UK for 2 years between August 2004 and August 2006. I have graduated with a first class honours degree in BEng Software Engineering from the University of Greenwich in August 2006 while I was studying in London and currently have 6 and a half years industry experience, although I’ve have been introduced to the field in 1997 when I first discovered HTML :)
My current industry certifications are MCAD (Microsoft Certified Application Developer) and MCDBA (Microsoft Certified Database Administrator) and I also hold an HNC (Higher National Certificate) and HND (Higher National Diploma) in Computer Studies.

Way back in 2001, I have created SkolaHbieb (www.skolahbieb.com) which is a maltese community website where members can find old classmates and rekindle old friendships. The current member base of skolahbieb is 12,000 which is fairly good for a small island like Malta. Skolahbieb had won the Best Local Community website award in 2001 and was highly featured in the media, on major newspapers, news bulletins and radio stations. Skolahbieb was a stepping stone in my career and I always bless every minute I’ve spent working on the site.

I consider myself to be agile developer - I can’t help myself not adding this in my first post. My preferred software development methodology is eXtreme Programming and my preferred language is C# although I’m interested in anything that is Object Oriented. I am probably too much obsessed with writing good quality code because I simply can’t move the cursor to the next line when I know that the code I’m writing can be improved… Needless to say, seeing code that smells hurts me so much. And yes, I would rather refactor it, than leaving it as it is :)
That’s enough for my first and I hope it wasn’t too overwhelming.
